Central Vermont Humane Society

...a place where the animals come first

At Central Vermont Humane Society, it really is all about the animals. We are here to provide a helping hand and temporary home for our animal friends in need. Serving the Washington and Orange County communities of Central Vermont, CVHS is an open door shelter. The mission of CVHS is to ensure the humane treatment of all domestic animals and to promote the advancement of animal welfare.

Urgent Need!

We are in urgent need of high quality dog and puppy food! Please help our dogs by dropping some off today! Great brands are Innova, Evo, California Natural, and Science Diet.

We are also in urgent need of wet (canned) cat and kitten food of any brand.

Join Jon Katz in Barre
to benefit CVHS!

Author Jon Katz will appear as part of the television show Connect with Amy Miller:

Barre Opera House
October 21, 2008
7:00-9:00 P.M.

Katz will discuss his perspective on life with dogs. The event will benefit CVHS. Check out the Connecting with Amy Miller website for more details on this event.

Katz' most recent books have described his relationships with dogs. He began writing about them after taking in a difficult border collie, whom Katz credited with changing his life by causing him to take up sheepherding and move to a farm. Katz's books on dogs include: A Dog Year (2001), The New Work of Dogs (2003), The Dogs of Bedlam Farm (2004), Katz on Dogs (2005), A Good Dog (2006), and Dog Days (2007).

How can YOU help
the animals at CVHS?

... Consider signing up as a foster family to provide temporary housing for animals in need.

... Stop by the shelter and ask about volunteer opportunities at the shelter or for special events.

... Check out our wish list to see what you might be able to donate.

... Stop by to visit and spend some time with our animal guests here at the shelter. They benefit from your attention and love, even if it's just for a walk around the block.

... Make a more lasting commitment to an animal -- sponsor an animal today!

... Or even better, consider adopting!

Happy 8th Birthday Travis!

Instead of presents for his birthday, Travis Roy asked his friends for food and supplies for CVHS animals! He and his friends filled a van with some of our most urgent needs. Thanks Travis!

Tell us your story

Have you adopted a pet from CVHS? Do you have a cat or dog who has changed your life for the better? We want to hear your story. Nothing helps to convey the importance of animal rescue than the personal stories of the many lives that have been positively impacted by our four legged friends. Send us your story to add to our collection of happy tails. Include a picture and we will add you and your pet pal to our alumni page where we celebrate the animals that have changed our lives!

Donation Wish List

Are you interested in helping out the animals at the shelter? There are many practical items that we could use. Here's a list of our most urgent needs.
