They are very wise. I was
raised without a kitty mama and have been learning a lot from them. I've grown a
bit since and am now not as small. A few days after I came mommy went and got two
more kitties, Carmy and Cassie, they are sisters and mommy says they had a terrible
time before they came. They were found abandoned in their former home and then had
to have emergency surgery to fix the effects of spay surgery that wasn't done right,
thats what mommy told me anyway. So now we are five kitties and a little black
bunny. I love the bunny but I'm not sure he likes me cause I'm always taking his
hay and food, its fun to play with. Mommy put some pix of us up so you can see us.
We are happy and Carmy and Cassie are making good progress toward being secure in
knowing we have a forever home. Mommy always tells us she loves us, even when I do
naughty things, I don't mean too its just that I like to have fun, sometimes she
doesn't appreciate the way I like to have fun. I hope you like our pictures, I
don't remember much about my life before I came here but mommy says we were taken
care of very well by our temporary mommies at the shelter. Thanks with love
Rainbow, Peaches, Cream, Cassie and Carmy (and their Mom)

P.S.Hi this is Rainbow again, mommy reminded me that I forgot to tell you that all five
of us came from the shelter, even though we don't remember our time there very well.

Macey May

Hello my name is Macey May.

I was adopted when I was a kitten Oct 2004.
I am a very lovable cat and I love to lay
on my moms lap. I live with two dachshunds
and another cat who is 1 yr old and we play
a lot together.
My family moved to West Virginia in 2005
so now I'm a southern belle. We don't get
a lot of snow here so I play in the
fenced back yard. My human Mom was looking for a companion with specifications of a rottweiler or German Shepherd—I fit the bill perfectly as I made to order. My human family is great; we run around the yard, play Frisbee and watch the property. Mom's human family is big; we have kids ranging to just1 year to 29 years old (some of these are grand kids). I like to human sit the little ones, they are fun. Mom has me trained well, the little ones 4 & 5 when they were younger would fall asleep on the floor for naps, I would watch over them while they slept.

My name is Oliver, I am an adoptee from 2004 also. I came to live with Cassi after my first human Mom moved out of state and couldn’t take me with her. But my 1st Mom worked with Cassi’s mom and asked if I could come and visit as Cassi was getting lonely when the human kids were away and Cassi needed help keeping an eye on the little ones. Well, the visit ended up being a permanent one. Cassi now has me to chase around or retrieve if Mom calls, as I am half hound and my nose gets the best of me.

As you can see by the pictures, we are very happy puppies (okay teenagers). We enjoy our human pack very much. Our human pack are very active kids and grand kids to keep us busy with playing ball, chasing birds or just laying in the sun. (You would say they are a pawful, )

We would like to introduce you to a very grand adoptee, her name is Beau. Beau was adopted in 1990 by our human grandpa. Beau has traveled from Vermont to Florida several times over the years. Recently, in 2004 & 2005, she took the longest road trip. She traveled with our human Grandpa, Grandma and Great Grandma from Vermont to California and back. From the stories Grandpa told us she had a great time. Sadly to say, Grandma Beau is not longer with us.

Since this was written, our human Grandpa has also passed. He would come to our house on Saturday and Sunday to have coffee and conversation with Mom. We would greet him each visit with great enthusiasm on what Grampa would bring us. We were like the grand kids waiting for a new toy or just a treat by jumping up and down barking Grampa is here! Grampa would bring us cookies every visit. We miss him as much as our Mom does with conversation and coffee.

Thank you for taking the time to read our stories. We will send you more of our activities as the years go on.

Monkster

"Monkster", who we adopted from CVHS on December 9, 1992.
"Monkster" is 15 now and doing so well, we expect to have her around for at
least another 15 years. We take very good care of her, and she takes very
good care of us. Despite her dislike of the v-e-t (which we know she can
spell), we bring her to her doctor not just once, but twice a year just to
make sure if she ever developed a medical condition, we could nip it in the
bud and start treating her right away. She also gets her teeth cleaned
every year, which she REALLY hates! But...we love her with all our heart
and want her to be with us for a long time! To keep her safe, Monkster is
an indoor kitty, but goes outside in the summer on a leash, but only if Mom
or Dad is out there with her. She never goes out alone.
Everyone who has seen the picture of Monkster that I have attached, tells me
what a beautiful picture it is, so when I saw "Oakie's" picture, I thought I
would send you the picture should you ever wish to feature any of your other
alumni. Monkster would just love it! As a matter of fact, one of
Monkster's "youngster" pictures was in an edition of your CVHS pamphlet
which I had drafted when I volunteered there many years ago. She like's
having her picture taken!
Thanks for "listening" to me rattle on about our little girl! If you use
the picture sometime, great, if not, that's okay...at least you can see what
a beautiful little girl we have.
Take care!
Joanne
P.S. In case you're wondering how we came about her name...my husband and I are big Washington Redskins fans and really liked Art Monk (wide receiver). Art's nickname was "The Monkster", so that's what we named our girl.

Bella

"Meow Meow everyone! Hope everyone at the shelter is doing well. I have the
BEST life ever!! I am such a lucky girl. My mommy, Holly, is the best mommy
a girl could ask for. Just last night, she brought me the cooolest
present--these two pop-up cubes with holes to go in and out of...perfect for
hiding, sleeping and playing!! They even have ribbons hanging down that I
can bat at and play with while I'm inside. YAY! Of course, nothing quite
beats my favvvvvvorite toy--a fishing pole 'dancer' that makes me jump, flip
and run around! Mommy and I play with it every morning before she goes to
work. And I make sure she doesn't forget--I meow and roll over on my
back...mommy knows that's my way of saying "play with me!"
Yup, the morning is probably my favorite time of day. When the alarm clock
rings, I runnnnnn to the kitchen as fast as I can (sometimes I almost trip
over my own feet!) because when Mommy gets out of bed, she goes to the
kitchen and gives me a can of fancy feast! (seafood varities only, please :)
) It is soooooo yummy, yummy, yummy. I was a very skinny girl when I was
adopted, but thanks to this breakfast, I am a happy, chubby, healthy girl
now! I even like the occassional bite of Mommy's food, especially
chicken--and mac & cheese!
Ohh-wanna hear how I was a *hero* one time?? Ok. One night, Mommy and I went
to bed and Mommy felt me batting at her leg. This is pretty unusual for
me--usually, I curl up next to her and wait for her to go to sleep. But this
night, I was acting very rambunctious. So, Mommy sat up and saw that I
wasn't batting at her leg--but a HUUUUGE spider! The spider was crawling up
towards Mommy's face! She is verrryyyy afraid of spiders. But I was "super
Bella to the rescue!" I kept swatting at that spider until Mommy finished it
off with a book. Phew! It was a close call! (Ok, maybe some people wouldn't
call me a *hero*, but Mommy did!) I felt pretty special.
So, there ya have it. My life is purrrrrtyyy cool. I get lots of cheek rubs
(mmmmm), yummy food, and so many cool toys! And in return, I protect Mommy
from the scary spiders and give her someone to cuddle up with. :)
I send lots of love to all the other kitties at the shelter. Hope you all
find homes like mine very soon!"
Love, BELLA

Ginger

Hi CVHS:

I cannot thank you enough about Ginger. We hadn't made it halfway when suddenly a paw with claws extended started to tear at one of the air holes. Then there was also a nose, then half a head, and then rip, thru the hole she emerged! She alternated between my lap and sprawled across the leather backseat the rest of the way home.

She seems to be content with staying inside, so for now at least, she will be an indoor cat. I feel this is best since she is so little and so trusting. She is just the sweetest thing, I am very happy I found her online! She enjoys sleeping on the leather computer chair (she has a thing for leather it seems) and at night she sleeps on my bed with me. She likes to follow my son and I around, and speaks to us in her little cat voice.

For the first few days she was desperate for attention. If she saw a free hand, she insisted that it be petting her. Now she has mellowed and is quite comfortable with us and the new surroundings. For entertainment, she spends a lot of time in the sunroom looking out the window at the birds that come to the feeders that hang outside. She also hides under the fern by one of the windows so they can't see her. She is going for her free visit to Dr. Roy on the 4th to get acquainted. Fortunately I now have a regular at carrier for transport, so there will be no more busting out!

Thanks so much for taking such good care of her while she was there, and for allowing me to adopt her.

Kathy Carton

Precious and her owner

Precious was adopted back in 2006. He was a tough little scared puppy of 4 months who had never been around people. Within a week, I realized his stay with me was not going to be temporary. He had already become part of our pack.

Boodah passed away about a year ago now, but in the five years we had him, he brought us more joy and wisdom than we could have ever imagined. His was not an easy life ... but despite the many hardships he indured, in the end, he was a wise soul masquerading as a big black goobery ball of love, oh...and three-time undisputed howling champion of the Stephen Huneck dog parties!

It's because of what Boodah taught me about believing in second chances, about finding hope where you thought there was none to be found, that led me back to CVHS where I had gotten him. In his memory, I rededicated myself to helping animals like him by joining the board of CVHS. My work with CVHS is a constant reminder of the joy Boodah brought into my life, and the joy all of us at CVHS can help to bring into the lives of others by offering to create new human-animal partnerships.

---Colleen Thomas
