Central Vermont Humane Society

...a place where the animals come first

At Central Vermont Humane Society, it really is all about the animals. We are here to provide a helping hand and temporary home for our animal friends in need. Serving the Washington and Orange County communities of Central Vermont, CVHS is an open door shelter. The mission of CVHS is to ensure the humane treatment of all domestic animals and to promote the advancement of animal welfare.

How can YOU help
the animals at CVHS?

... Consider signing up as a foster family to provide temporary housing for animals in need.

... Stop by the shelter and ask about volunteer opportunities at the shelter or for special events.

... Check out our wish list to see what you might be able to donate.

... Stop by to visit and spend some time with our animal guests here at the shelter. They benefit from your attention and love, even if it's just for a walk around the block.

... Make a more lasting commitment to an animal -- sponsor an animal today!

... Or even better, consider adopting!

Walk for Animals 2008 Coming Up

It's not too soon to start signing up sponsors for the 2008 Walk for Animals. This annual fundraiser is a great way to get involved and show your support for animals in need.

May 17, 2008
Knight of Columbus in Barre

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m.

The Walk for the Animals is your opportunity to trade dog stories, meet fellow members of the CVHS and their adopted friends, and enjoy a day of fun and activities while you help the CVHS. Bring your family, your friends, and your dog(s). All well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. All proceeds from this special day will be used for the care and boarding of the more than 1,600 animals that come through the CVHS each year. Download a pledge form here.

Show Your Love - Become a Pet Pal

Is your heart big enough to help an animal in need? Consider being a Pet Pal for a shelter animal at a cost of only $20 per month. As a Pet Pal, you will receive information about the animal you sponsor, and a red heart with your name will be displayed at the shelter. You will also be recognized on the CVHS website.

Make Your Pet a Star in the
2009 CVHS Weekly Planner Calendar!

Volunteer Sindi Parker, together with friends, is producing a calendar for CVHS for 2009. This weekly planner style calendar will feature pictures of the many animals friends of CVHS. For a $25 donation, you can have your pets featured and help support CVHS! For more information, contact Marcia at the shelter: 476-3811 or marcia@cvhumane.com

Tell us your story

Have you adopted a pet from CVHS? Do you have a cat or dog who has changed your life for the better? We want to hear your story. Nothing helps to convey the importance of animal rescue than the personal stories of the many lives that have been positively impacted by our four legged friends. Send us your story to add to our collection of happy tails. Include a picture and we will add you and your pet pal to our alumni page where we celebrate the animals that have changed our lives!
