The shelter...a home for now
The Central Vermont Humane Society shelter is located in Barre and is open to the public
five days a week. Please stop by to visit with our animals, take them for a walk and
consider taking one home. The shelter staff will be happy to share with you the stories
of our animals up for adoption, discuss with you the process for adoption, and help you
determine what kind of pet would best suit your lifestyle and family. There are also many
volunteer opportunities available to those looking to help out animals in need. We
welcome your visits and your support!

DIRECTIONS:
FROM INTERSTATE 89: Take exit 8 (Montpelier). The town of Montpelier will be on your left and you will be on Route 2. Stay on Route 2 for 3 miles. Pass the "Agway" store and the landfill, both on the right side of the road.. The next right turn is an unmarked gravel road (Muddy Brook Road). Turn there and go 3/4 of a mile. Make a sharp right turn onto Mekkelsen Hill Road. We are the first building on the right.
FROM BARRE CITY: Turn right from Main Street onto Beckley Hill Road between the big brick highrise and the blue gas station. Follow Beckley Hill through several neighborhoods and past a cemetary for about 4 miles. You will go over a big hill and the shelter is at the bottom of the hill on your left.
